Mignolet will stay at Liverpool – Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his belief that Simon Mignolet will be staying at the club, despite not getting much game-time.

The Belgian goalkeeper arrived to Anfield from Sunderland back in 2013, and since then he has stood between the posts 204 times. Loris Karius was given a chance of pushing him out of the starting XI twice and failed, but Mignolet definitely lost his place with the arrival of Alisson Becker last summer. It has now been a year and a half since he was considered as Klopp’s first option, and his future has been the subject of speculation on several occasions.

However, the German tactician insists that at a club like Liverpool, who have won the Champions League this year and finished a single point behind Premier League winners Manchester City, two goalkeepers capable of being number one are needed, and that’s what they have with Alisson and Mignolet.

Klopp also took the opportunity to praise Mignolet’s professional attitude.
