Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani admitted the Rossoneri could move for Philippe Mexes if decides against extending his contract at Roma.
The French defender’s contract at Olimpico is set to expire at the end of the season and it now looks as though he will not be signing a new deal.
Mexes is far from happy with team’s results this season and the poor atmosphere around the squad, so he could be tempted to join Milan as the Rossoneri are slowly building a team capable of challenging for honours.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani revealed they were interested in the France international.
“There is no agreement between us and Philippe Mexes,” Galliani told L’Equipe.
“Milan don’t want to disturb the player or the friendly club of Roma. If the player decides not to extend his contract with Roma, Milan, like many other clubs, would obviously be interested.”
The Rossoneri are short on options in defence with veterans Nesta and Yepes largely struggling at the moment, so Philippe Mexes would definitely be a good addition to the squad as he could form an excellent partnership with Thiago Silva.
Barca still have the first option on Fabregas
Even though it was believed the clause has expired, Barcelona still have the first option to buy back Cesc Fabregas, according to AS.
The Catalans could reignite their interest in Cesc Fabregas after finding out that they still have the first option to buy the Spaniard should he decide to leave the club.
In 2003, Sandro Rossel, acting as a vice-president, traveled to London to negotiate the first option clause with Arsenal chairman David Dean, which could now prove decisive in Barca’s assault on the Spain international.
Even though there were some doubts over the duration of the agreement, it has recently been revealed that the clause is still active.
This should give Barcelona the upper hand over rivals Real Madrid and Chelsea in the race for the Arsenal skipper and all they have to do is to raise enough money to fund the deal.
With Fabregas also keen on the return to Camp Nou, the transfer could be completed at the end of the season.
Alves moves closer to signing a new deal
While negotiations between Barcelona and Daniel Alves are still ongoing, it appears that the Brazilian is edging closer to signing a new contract.
Even though it looked as though Alves would not be able to reach an agreement with Barca chiefs, things have now changed, despite the fact that the player’s agent doesn’t want to reveal anything.
“Everything is in neutral. We haven’t progressed nor regressed. It’s a tie,” Joaquin Macanas told El Mundo Deportivo.
However, while Alves is still holding out for a big pay rise, he has started to appreciate the gestures of the club.
Alves is pleased with the fact that Barcelona are trying to find a solution to offer him a contract that he wants, while the Brazilian was also impressed by Sandro Rossel’s trip to Paris, where the pair met after the France vs Brazil friendly game.
As things now stand, Alves is likely to sign a new deal even though there are still a lot of things to be sorted out.
