Milan and Benfica vying for Damiao

Brazilian newspaper Lance! understands that AC Milan and Benfica are in the race to sign Santos striker Leandro Damiao.

The Brazilian giants hope to cash in on the highly rated forward and use the money to sign new players, and they have less than a week before the transfer window closes in Europe.

According to Lance!, AC Milan and Benfica are hot on the trail of the 25-year-old footballer, although neither side are prepared to match his €1.5 million yearly wage.

For the time being, Damiao is not prepared to agree to a pay cut and this is likely to prove a major obstacle to any deal.

Leandro Damiao joined Santos from Internacional in December 2013 and has since bagged 6 goals in 21 league outings.

The 2012 Summer Olympics top scorer has failed to make Brazil World Cup squad, having last appeared for the national team in June 2013.
