(GSM) – Milan are preparing a bid for Velez Sarsfield defender Nicolas Otamendi, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 22-year-old who is already a regular for Argentina is widely regarded as the next Walter Samuel.
Milan are ready to pay €12m for the player, but face significant competition from Bayern München and Real Madrid.
However, with a list of suitors as long as their arm, Velez are asking for a figure closer to €20m, something that could end Milan’s interest.
Adriano Galliani is said to have backed the move primarily because Otamendi can play in more than one position across the defence and midfield.
The Rossoneri are particularly looking to reinforce their defence this summer after several injuries revealed it to be quite threadbare this season.
They have already agreed to sign Chievo centre-back Mario Yepes on a free transfer at the end of the campaign.
