(GSM) – Manager Massimiliano Allegri has been released by Cagliari. The move paves the way for the Italian manager to join Milan.
Despite a strong season with Cagliari, Allegri was sacked by Cagliari in April but remained contracted to the club.
Meanwhile, Milan have identified the former Cagliari manager as the replacement for Leonardo who left San Siro at the end of last season in the wake of heavy criticism from both the board and fans.
A statement on Cagliari’s official website read: “Despite the bitterness and the disappointment left by the scarce involvement shown by the coach Massimiliano Allegri at the end of the season, president Massimo Cellino has decided to free him following a request made by Milan.
“Cagliari have not asked for any financial compensation considering the impossibility of quantifying the value of feelings.”
Allegri is seen as one of the most promising young managers in Italian football.
