Milan defender linked with Real Madrid
Real Madrid have shown interest in Milan defender Thiago Silva, but the player’s agent warned Los Merengues that his client would cost a lot of money.
After struggling to adapt to Italian football at the start, the Brazilian defender was one of the star performers in the team last season and even managed to attract interest of one Jose Mourinho.
Silva’s agent, Paulo Toniento believes his client is worth a lot of money:
“In order to talk about a possible transfer to Real Madrid, AC Milan would have to be willing to sell Thiago Silva. Now, only his arm is worth 10 million euros. Thiago Silva is one of the best players in his position and not a player to play second fiddle to anyone.”
There is no doubt Silva would struggle to command a starting place at Santiago Bernabeu and with so many great players turned rubbish by Real in the past, he would be better off staying at Milan, where he pretty much has the starting place guaranteed. He is still very young and Milan definitely look like much better club to aid his further development than Real.

Hamburg set to sign Heiko Westermann
Hamburg continue their search for reinforcements and the Bundesliga outfit are now closing in on Schalke defender Heiko Westermann, who will cost around 7.5 million euros.
The player who missed the World Cup 2010 through injury will sign a four-year contract with HSV subject to passing a medical and should soon team up with his new teammates.
Westermann missed Schalke’s training on Monday, adding fuel to speculations he is on his way out of the club, and the defender seems to have chosen his next destination.
After four weeks of negotiations with Schalke, HSV are expected to present the new player as early as today.
Heiko Westermann has established himself as one of the best Bundesliga centre-backs during the last three seasons at Schalke and his arrival will add even more steel to Hamburg’s back line, while new boss Bernd Hoffman is set to welcome the opportunity of creating a world-class centre-back pairing of Joris Mathijsen and Heiko Westermann.

Atletico Madrid close to striking a deal for Filipe Luis
Atletico Madrid are expected to announce the signing of Brazilian full-back Filipe Luis from Deportivo La Coruna after the sides have reached an agreement earlier today.
Los Colchoneros will pay Deportivo €6 million up front for the player with another €6 million set to be paid through installments.
During yesterday afternoon, Deportivo announced that the player had not traveled with the team to training camp in Switzerland and that was a clear sign that a deal will be concluded soon.
Deportivo president, Augusto Cesar Lendoiro is already in Madrid, where he will have talks with Atletico representatives and the player’s agent, Garcia Quilon, with the transfer set to be completed in the next few hours.
Atletico had identified the full-back, who was close to a switch to Barcelona last summer, as their main target and they will be happy to have signed one of the biggest prospects in La Liga.
Filipe Luis will come across a fierce competition for the starting place with Atletico captain Antonio Lopez but if he manages to stay injury-free, I have no doubts he will become a first team regular at Vicente Calderon.
