Il Corriere dello Sport is reporting that AC Milan are set to launch a new assault on Zenit star Axel Witsel.
In spite of the heavy summer recruitment, the Rossoneri have failed to prove their worth this season and it is clear that additional reinforcements are needed.
It would appear as though AC Milan have made recruiting a dominant central midfielder their priority for the 2016/2017 campaign.
And with Palermo refusing to negotiate the sale of Franco Vazquez, the Rossoneri have turned their attention back to Axel Witsel.
AC Milan officials hope to wrap up the deal as soon as possible and only finalise it ahead of the summer transfer window, but reaching an agreement with Zenit will be no easy task.
While the Rossoneri are prepared to offer around €15 million in cash, plus the economic rights of Suso and also loan Jose Mauri to Zenit, the Russian giants want full €30 million to be paid in cash.
