AC Milan director Ariedo Braida has confirmed the club’s interest in Genoa centre-back Andreas Granqvist.
With Alessandro Nesta unlikely to extend his contract that is due to expire at the end of the season, the Rossoneri are looking to replace the veteran defender next summer.
The San Siro outfit have been heavily linked with Genoa defender Andreas Granqvist and club’s sporting director Ariedo Braida has now confirmed reports linking AC Milan with a move for the Swedish international.
“It is true, I have followed him on several occasions,” Braida told Swedish newspaper Expressen.
“He is an excellent player, he looks to be a great guy and he has great qualities.
“Will we try to sign him in the summer? It does not seem right to talk about this because Milan will face Genoa on Saturday and it would be unprofessional to discuss their players.”
The two clubs hold excellent relationships and they tend to do some business in every transfer window, so it is believed that agreeing a transfer fee for the experienced Swede will not be a problem.
The 26-year-old joined Genoa in a €4.5 million deal from Groningen last summer, and quickly developed into an important member of the starting line-up.
Granqvist has featured in 22 Serie A games this season and he managed to score one goal in the process.
