Milan keen on Niang; Aquilani seals Fiorentina move

Italian giants AC Milan have reportedly joined Arsenal and Manchester City in the race for 17-year-old Caen striker M’Baye Niang, Sky Sports understands.

The France U-21 international spent last month on trial at Arsenal, but is currently in Italy negotiating a potential move to the San Siro.

The Gunners launched an official approach to take Niang on a season-long loan, with the option of making the deal permanent, following his successful trial in north London.

“Arsenal made me a proposition, but other clubs are interested – two in England and one in Italy,” Caen president Jean-Francois Fortin told L’Equipe.

“There will be an issue here for a fortnight before the matter is resolved.”

Stade Malherbe Caen are likely to cash in on Niang following their relegation from Ligue 1.

Niang made his Caen debut against Toulouse FC in April 2011. He went on to net three goals in 7 league appearances in his debut season (2010-11).

The 17-year-old striker bagged two goals in 23 French Ligue 1 appearances after breaking into Caen’s first-team last term.

Aquilani seals Fiorentina move

According to Sky Sports, Liverpool have cut ties with out-of-favour midfielder Alberto Aquilani, who joined the club for a fee £20 million from AS Roma in 2009, after the Italian agreed to join Fiorentina on a permanent transfer.

Aquilani spent last season on loan at AC Milan, tallying one goal and six assists in 23 league appearances (14 starts).

“Liverpool Football Club can today confirm that Alberto Aquilani has completed a permanent transfer to Serie A side Fiorentina,” revealed a statement on Liverpool’s official website.

“The Italian midfielder joined Liverpool in 2009 but made just 28 first-team appearances having spent the last two seasons on loan in his homeland.

“Everyone at the club would like to wish Alberto all the best for the future.”

The Italy international made just 25 competitive appearances for the Reds, meaning that he cost the Merseysiders around £800,000 per outing. That’s not good business.

With that said, the Reds certainly made some “interesting” business decisions in 2011.

Liverpool Transfer Woes (2011)

Andy Carroll (Newcastle United) – £35 million

Stewart Downing (Aston Villa) – £20 million

Jordan Henderson (Sunderland) – £20 million

*Note: Liverpool signed Luis Suarez for just £22.8 million from Ajax Amsterdam in 2011.

Spurs launch move for Rondon

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a £10million bid Malaga CF striker Salomon Rondon, The Sun reports.

The Spanish outfit are drowning in debt, and must raise enough money to pay off their debts by 18 August. If they do not, Los Boquerones could suffer relegation and lose their place in the 2012-13 UEFA Champions League.

Subsequently, Rondon could move to north London for a reasonable fee this summer, with Spurs in need of a front-man and Malaga in need of cash
