Italian newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Milan could make a move for either Kevin Strootman or Radja Nainggolan.
Even if club chief Adriano Galliani is adamant the Rossoneri will not be signing a new player to replace Nigel de Jong, the media reports suggest otherwise.
After the Dutch midfielder snapped his Achilles in the 4-2 win over Torino, Milan are expected to step up their interest in Kevin Strootman and Radja Nainggolan.
The PSV Eindhoven midfielder is a similar player to Mark van Bommel, who has left a very good impression at San Siro.
Strootman has been in scintillating form for both club and country this season, proving he has what it takes to play at the highest level, although his €20 million price tag could prove to be a problem.
Milan have a plan B, however, as they are also keen on Cagliari star Radja Nainggolan, who would be a cheaper alternative to the Netherlands international.
