(GSM) – Milan have been appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their new coach on a two-year contract at the San Siro.
The former Cagliari manager Allegri replaces Leonardo, who left the club at the end of last season in the wake of heavy criticism from both the board and fans.
The 42-year-old tactician carried the Rossoblu to ninth and 12th place finishes in Serie A in his two seasons in charge.
“This day has made me very happy,” he told reporters.
“It was a bit of a long month but I am happy.
“Now we will have all the time to prepare for the season. We need to try to work in the best way possible to obtain the maximum.
“I’m not worried about the Milan dressing room, the technical staff are already all with me.
“Now a bit of a holiday.”
The former Pescara midfielder is regarded as one of the country’s finest young managers and he was voted to be awarded the Panchina d’Oro (Golden bench) prize as the best Serie A coach in both campaigns.
