Milan propose Cassano-Hamsik swap
Serie A high-flyers Napoli are closing in on Milan forward Antonio Cassano, Tuttosport reports.
The player’s agent Beppe Bozzo has reportedly met with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and was satisfied with the outcome of negotiations.
The Partenopei are looking to add more quality to the squad as they prepare for the Champions League campaign and they see Cassano as the man who can make a real difference in Europe’s top competition.
The Italy international has lost his starting spot at Milan and is reportedly looking to leave San Siro in search for first team football.
The Rossoneri chiefs are willing to discuss the deal, but they are hoping to swap Cassano for their long-term target Marek Hamsik.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani is very keen on the Slovak and he is hoping that a proposed swap will come to fruition.
Seeing that both players operate in the trequartista position, the swap looks like the right way to go.
Manchester United ponder Xabi Alonso bid
Manchester United are looking to bring Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso to Old Trafford, according to Radio Cadena Ser.
The former Liverpool star has enjoyed a great season at Santiago Bernabeu and is considered one of the key members of the squad.
However, Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to test Real’s resolve with a bid for the Spain international.
The Scottish manager sees Alonso as a perfect replacement for Paul Scholes and is willing to offer him more than what he is currently earning at Real.
Nevertheless, this looks like a very ambitious bid considering that Alonso is regarded a key player at Real.
In addition to that, the player has repeatedly spoken of his loyalty to Liverpool, which would make his move to Old Trafford highly unlikely.
Even so, Manchester United will try to tempt the player by offering him a significant pay rise.
Redknapp: Tottenham not a selling club
Experience manager Harry Redknapp says that the club have sent a real message to big European clubs by rejecting a hefty offer for Luka Modric.
Chelsea tested Tottenham’s resolve with a £22 million bid for the Croat, but Spurs easily rejected the offer, dubbing it ‘ridiculous’.
Luka Modric has since expressed his desire to leave the club, but Redknapp believes that the Croat will remain at White Hart Lane.
“If Tottenham sell Luka then I feel it sends out a message that maybe Gareth Bale could leave and no one wants either to happen,” Redknapp told The Sun.
“I have seen that sort of thing before. West Ham decided to sell Rio Ferdinand and then all of a sudden they all seemed to go. That’s no good for any club.
The experienced manager is determined to keep his star players at White Hart Lane for years to come.
“Tottenham need to keep their best players as well as add more quality to the squad if they want to mount a serious challenge for the title.
“Other top clubs raise the bar all the time and Spurs must keep pace. It’s as simple as that.”
