AC Milan have identified Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as a suitable candidate to replace Pepe Reina, according to various reports in England.
The former Chelsea and Stoke City shot-stopper has only just returned from Azerbaijan, where he spent the first half of the season on loan with FK Qarabag. He trained with Bournemouth this week, but it seems his time in England has indeed come to an end, and he’ll continue his career in Italy.
Milan have agreed a deal to send Reina back to the Premier League, on loan to Aston Villa, which effectively leaves them without a backup option for first choice Gianluigi Donnarumma. Therefore, they intend to take Begovic, also on a temporary basis.
Speaking ahead of his team’s clash with Watford on Sunday, Cherries’ boss Eddie Howe admitted a loan move for the 32-year-old was possible, though he refused to confirm anything and simply said that this was a situation where things may change at any moment, despite Begovic training normally with the rest of the team.
