Milan to launch fresh assault on Witsel

AC Milan are set to rekindle their interest in Zenit star Axel Witsel, Tuttosport suggested on Tuesday.

The Rossoneri have been very active in the summer transfer window and they managed to seriously reinforce the squad ahead of the new season.

AC Milan looked very good in the Coppa Italia fixture against Perugia, but coach Sinisa Mihajlovic will attempt to add at least another high-profile player to his ranks before the transfer window closes.

The latest reports suggest the Rossoneri may make one final assault on Zenit’s Axel Witsel, who has been heavily linked with a summer switch to Serie A.

And with Juventus pulling out of the race for his signature, AC Milan stand a good chance of luring him to San Siro, provided they can reach an agreement over the transfer fee.

Witsel, 26, spent last three years with Zenit, making 82 league appearances for the club and scoring 12 goals in total.
