Milner happy on the bench?

Aston Villa’s James Milner says that he is not bothered by the fact that he has played just a bit-part since his £12million move from Newcastle.

Since the move Milner has made only substitute appearances in the Premier League and has started twice in the UEFA Cup.

Milner said: “I’d be delighted if we won every game with me sat on the bench. What’s important is being part of a massive club doing well on a number of fronts.”

I know that Milner has to say positive things about his knew club but there can only be two ways of interpreting what he has said.

1. He is lying and he is incredibly frustrated and just wants to play.
2. He is telling the truth and the fear we had that footballers were happy to pick up one hundred thousand a week and sit on the bench turns out to be a reality.

I’m pretty sure it is number 1, although in this case I suppose there is a third possibility. It could just be that he is so relieved to have left Newcastle that he really doesn’t care what happens. Whatever it is, it’s got to be better!
