Takumi Minamino of RB Salzburg is set to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed move to Liverpool today (Wednesday), according to Paul Joyce, journalist for The Times.
The 24-year-old forward impressed Jurgen Klopp and his players in the two games Liverpool played against Salzburg in the Champions League group stages this season. He was on the score-sheet in the exciting Anfield encounter as he inspired Salzburg to come back from 3-0 down to 3-3, before ultimately falling to a Mohamed Salah winner.
The Champions League holders reportedly beat off some stiff competition for the Japanese international, whose high level of versatility makes him a very interesting prospect. Minamino is quite capable of playing on either attacking flank, as a striker, a number 10 behind a striker, or in a box-to-box midfield role.
Should the medical go without any ‘hitches’, he will officially be a Liverpool player on January 1st, making him eligible for the FA Cup Merseyside Derby that is being played on the 5th.
