Competition: MLS
Market: Minnesota United win
Odds: 1/1 @ 888sport
Two sides who find themselves leading the chase in the Final Series hunt, Minnesota will welcome Portland to Allianz Field in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Starting with the hosts, while Minnesota would have been disappointed to have been hit with that 2-0 defeat against Colorado earlier in the month, The Loons made an immediate return to winning ways last time out. Landing themselves what was a deserved 1-0 victory against the Seattle Sounders last weekend, Adrian Heath’s men have once again impressed many across the MLS since opening the 2021 campaign. Losing just one of their last nine straight contests, a run that stems all the way back to May 9th, Minnesota should also be boosted by what has become an eye-catching record on home soil. Last seen at Allianz Field picking up that 1-0 victory against Seattle, Heath’s squad have mustered 13 points from just their last five MLS home fixtures, a run that has also seen them land four clean sheets.
As for the visitors, despite enduring what were worrying back-to-back defeats when heading into July, Portland will be boosted by what has been a much-needed bounce. Still leading the chase for a Final Series spot, The Timbers have now claimed a pair of handy victories against Los Angeles and Dallas on home soil. However, gaining a reputation for their issues on the road and mustering just a single point from their last three contests away from Providence Park, it should also be noted that Portland hold a hugely worrying record against Sunday’s opponents. Including a 1-0 defeat when they welcomed Minnesota to Oregon back on June 27th, Giovanni Savarese’s men have lost each of their previous three meetings against The Loons. More worrying, they have picked up just a single point from their last seven meetings against this weekend’s hosts.
