Minnesota United v FC Dallas: Farrington excited to be back on road after home struggles

FC Dallas forward Logan Farrington admitted they have struggled at home this season and is hopeful they can bounce back on the road against Minnesota United.

Dallas are unbeaten in away games so far this season, winning two and drawing two, but have only managed one victory on home soil.

Their 1-0 defeat to Seattle Sounders at Toyota Stadium leaves them eighth in the Western Conference with 11 points.

And Farrington acknowledged that time away from their home turf may be a good change for Dallas.

“As much as home should be a fortress, we have struggled so far at home,” he said, as quoted in the BigDSoccer substack.

“And away we’ve been pretty solid. So, I think for us, we can regroup, go away and do what we’ve done throughout the season so far, and hopefully get back on track.”

Minnesota, meanwhile, have lost just once so far this season, as they sit second in the table with 15 points, four behind leaders Vancouver Whitecaps.

They are unbeaten in their last seven after suffering defeat to Los Angeles FC in their MLS opener, but failed to make it three wins on the bounce after a frustrating 0-0 draw with Toronto FC last time out.

Head coach Eric Ramsay admitted Minnesota need to adapt better to approaches that stifle their counter-attacking style as the season goes on.

“We’re going to have to be a team that is undoubtedly always a counter-attacking threat, and against Toronto, we were a pass or two away from being a team that can create with organized attacks and longer spells of possession,” he said.

“Over the year, we’re going to encounter teams that are going to be aware of our success over the first eight games, so it’s up to us to adapt around that.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Minnesota United – Joaquin Pereyra

Minnesota United won the possession battle for the first time this season on Saturday, holding 52.0% of the ball against Toronto FC.

While Michael Boxall had the best passing accuracy in the game (92.9%), Joaquin Pereyra was on the ball the most, having 96 touches and making 65 passes, completing 53 of them (81.5% passing accuracy).

FC Dallas – Anderson Julio

Anderson Julio has scored three goals in two career matches at Allianz Stadium, all with Real Salt Lake.

The only player to score in three straight visits to Minnesota United in regular-season play is Carlos Vela (2019-23).

MATCH PREDICTION: MINNESOTA UNITED WIN

With their goalless draw on Saturday, Minnesota United extended their unbeaten run to seven matches (W4 D3), equaling the second-longest regular-season unbeaten run in club history. The Loons went unbeaten in eight straight matches from September-November 2020.

FC Dallas have avoided defeat in each of their last three visits to Minnesota (W1 D2). The Loons had won five of their first six home matches against Dallas (L1).

Dallas have made a strong start to the season, going unbeaten in five straight away matches so far (W2 D3), the club’s longest regular-season road unbeaten run since 2016-17 (eight straight). This is the first time in club history that Dallas have gone unbeaten in five straight away matches to begin a season.

OPTA WIN PROBABILITY

Minnesota United – 52.3%

Draw – 24.3%

FC Dallas – 23.3%
