Gianluigi Donnarumma’s name is back in the headlines following a summer which turned into a proper soap opera for the talented AC Milan goalkeeper.
The 18-year-old made his AC Milan debut at 16 and has gone from strength to strength since, cementing his place in the starting line-up and establishing himself as the natural successor of legendary Gianluigi Buffon.
Donnarumma extended his deal with Rossoneri last summer after much ado over the renewal which at one point turned the fans against one of the most talented shot-stoppers in Europe.
The goalkeeping prospect, in the end, decided to stay in Milan until 2021 on a €5.5 million a year deal with AC Milan obliged to sign his brother Antonio as well.
Corriere dello Sport, however, understands that Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola is currently attempting to annul the deal between AC Milan and his protegee and make him a free agent ahead of the summer transfer window in 2018.
Raiola is building his case around a reported clause that would introduce a different release clause if Rossoneri fail to qualify for the Champions League. The super-agent is said to be keen to protect his client from possible ‘psychological pressure’ and ‘violation of morale stances’ which he is hoping will help him free Donnarumma from AC Milan shackles.
