Minute 11: Harnik wastes a glorious chance for Austria! A looping ball lands in behind a slack Polish defense, leaving Harnik to run unchallenged on Boruc, but the striker slides it wide. Should have been the opener.
Minute 10: Long free kick sent in low by Ivanschitz and it’s a good effort that forces Boruc into a save.
Minute 9: Game has been kept pretty much in the midfield in these early phases, but just now Austria have an attack snuffed out when Jacek Bak takes down Martin Harnik.
Minute 6: First shot falls onto the boot of Andreas Ivanschitz, but the Austria skipper drags it wide of the target. Artur Boruc gives his defenders a piece of his mind, as well.
Minute 4: Early possession dominated by Austria, but it lacks organization. Poland get the first meaningful service into the area, but it’s cleared by Jürgen Macho.
Minute 1: The anthems have been played, the captains have exchanged pleasantries and we are underway in a crucial Group B tie for both sides.
Pre-Game: Three changes for Poland Mariusz Jop taking the place of Pawel Golanski in the back, Marek Saganowski taking a spot on the flank from Wojciech Lobodzinski and Roger Guerreiro taking the place of Maciej Zurawski in central attack.
Pre-Game: Austria make three changes to the side that was defeated by Croatia. Joachim Standfest is replaced by Christoph Leitgeb on the right side of midfield, Ümit Korkmaz goes from the start on the left flank for Ronald Gërçaliu, and defender György Garics starts with holding midfielder Jürgen Säumel relegated to the bench.
Pre-Game: Following Croatia’s 2-1 victory over Germany in Klagenfurt, Austria will need to earn at least a point tonight to avoid being eliminated from Euro 2008. A win puts either of these sides back into contention for the knockout rounds. Anything but an Austrian win confirms Croatia’s place in the quarterfinals.
