Miyaichi aims to keep improving

Bolton forward Ryo Miyaichi believes that he has a lot more to offer the club following his fourth successive start on Saturday.

The young Japan player, currently on loan at the Reebok Stadium from Arsenal, was impressive in the 2-1 win over QPR in the English Premier League on Saturday despite being deployed in the unfamiliar surroundings of the right wing in Owen Coyle’s 4-1-4-1 formation, setting up Ivan Klasnic’s late winner.

Miyaichi suggested that, while playing in a different position may be difficult at first, it will help his all-round game in the long-run.

“It was my first time to play on the right in a Premier League game, and it was a huge experience,” he said.

“I wasn’t able to go behind the defender but I discovered elements of my game which I can improve on so I’m looking forward to the next match now.”

“If I’m on the left-hand side, I can run inside and take a shot as well – I find it more difficult to come inside from the right. I’m determined to try to work harder and widen the variety of my play.”

Miyaichi, 19, who spent time on loan at Dutch giants Feyenoord last season, also explained that he wants to vary his game and that Bolton skipper Nigel Reo-Coker has offered useful advice.

“I wanted to do something on my own, but I often couldn’t,” Miyaichi said.

“Nigel told me that all the QPR players are wary because of my pace, so what I need is to use my team-mates to my benefit.”

“I want to try to broaden my playing style and be able to play on both sides. However, it’s easier said than done and I always try to take the opponents on.”

“But I know that I sometimes need to hold my desire to do so, and try to contribute to the team.”

Furthermore, in the past month Miyaichi has played at both the Etihad Stadium and Stamford Bridge and, while he admits that he is still finding his feet in the Premier League, playing in these environments is helping him gain a sense of belonging and spurring him on to continue his improvement.

“Getting used to Premier League football is the biggest change for me, especially the experience playing against Chelsea and Manchester City,” the youngster said.

“Those games gave me confidence but at the same time, I felt that I need to improve my game more and more.”
