The Vancouver Whitecaps survived nearly half an hour with 10 men to salvage a 1-1 draw with Chivas USA in the MLS on Wednesday.

The struggling Whitecaps made it to the break at the Home Depot Center in Carson at 0-0, but conceded a goal almost immediately after the break to Nick LaBrocca.

However, they were able to equalise just two minutes later through Camilo Sanvezzo, only to be thrust onto the back foot once more in the 66th minute when French midfielder Eric Hassli received a striahgt red card.

But Chivas were not able to make the most of their numerical advantage in the final half hour, with Vancouver holding on for a valuable draw.

Despite the result the Whitecaps are still three points adrift at the bottom of the MLS’s Western Conference, with Chivas sitting two places higher in seventh.
