Real Salt Lake led for much of their MLS match away to Columbus Crew on Wednesday, but a late double saw the hosts run out 2-1 winners.

Defender Jamison Olave put the visiting Real ahead with a goal from a corner kick seven minutes in at Columbus Crew Stadium.

They looked to be on course for their third away win of the season, before Andres Mendoza equalised from the penalty spot on 75 minutes.

And in a double blow for Jason Kreis’ men, Columbus midfielder Josh Gardner then notched the winner for the home side eight minutes from time.

It was Gardner’s first MLS goal since 2006 after he spent the last four years in the minor leagues.

Coincidentally, the 28-year-old’s career-first MLS goal also came against Real, scored for former club Los Angeles Galaxy.

The wins lifts Columbus up to third in the Eastern Conference, three points off leaders Philadelphia.

Real are fourth in the Western Conference, 10 points back from top side LA Galaxy.
