(GSM) – Saturday’s Major League Soccer top clash between New York Red Bull and Real Salt Lake ended in a goalless draw, while Seattle Sounders’ 1-2 win at Kansas City Wizards decided the play-off race.
New York needed a win over Real Salt Lake to keep a theoretic chance of winning this season’s Supporters Shield, while Real knew that anything but a victory would likely end their chances of winning the Western Conference.
As the match in New York ended without goals, the Red Bulls are now no longer candidates to win the Supporters Shield and may still have their Eastern Conference top spot come under thread in the two remaining rounds.
For Real Salt Lake, the result means that the Utah side remain at four points from Western Conference leaders Los Angely Galaxy.
Dallas were held to a 2-2 draw by Colorado, but both sides are certain of a spot in the play-offs. Milton Rodriguez and David Ferreira scored for Dallas, while Jeff Larentowicz netted twice for the Rapids.
San Jose Earthquakes traveled to Washington to visit DC United, and returned with a 0-2 victory in the pocket. Both goals were scored by Chris Wondolowski.
Seattle Sounders meanwhile, defeated Kansas City Wizards 1-2 and by doing so, they secured their own and Colorado’s spot in the play-offs. The Wizards were the last remaining threat to Seattle and Colorado, but are now out of contention.
New York and Columbus Crew get the wild card spots in the Eastern Conference but all of the six other teams will come from the much stronger Western Conference. The two will be joined by Los Angeles Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Dallas, Seattle, San Jose and Colorado.
