The Portland Timber hauled themselves off the bottom of the MLS Western Conference on Thursday with a 4-2 home win over Chicago.
In pouring rain, Jorge Perlaza opened the scoring for the home side after 28 minutes and when defender Rodney Wallace scored on 37 minutes, Portland were cruising at 2-0 at the interval.
Perlaza scored his second four minutes after the break to make it 3-0, but Chicago responded brilliantly with a brace to midfielder Marco Pappa to tighten things up with 10 minutes to play.
Mamadou Danso scored what proved to be the decider with six minutes to play, lifting Portland off the foot of the table and leaving Chivas USA bottom of the Western Conference.
Chicago, meanwhile, are stuck on four points – level with DC United at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.
