Los Angeles FC defeated Montreal Impact 4-2 to extend their unbeaten run in MLS, while rivals LA Galaxy claimed a confidence-boosting victory.
LAFC made it seven matches without defeat thanks to goals from Christian Ramirez, Carlos Vela, Latif Blessing and Tristan Blackmon on Friday.
After Ramirez put LAFC ahead in the seventh minute, Vela took his season tally to 15 goals in 15 games before Blessing sealed a one-sided first half by the half-hour mark.
Blackmon made it 4-0 10 minutes into the second half before the Impact scored two late consolation goals as Western Conference leaders LAFC moved eight points clear of Seattle Sounders, who have played two games less.

The Galaxy are a point further adrift in third after ending their four-game losing streak in a 1-0 victory away to Orlando City.
LA Galaxy had lost to New York Red Bulls, Columbus Crew, New York City and Colorado Rapids to slip off the pace in the west.
But in the absence of suspended star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Galaxy returned to winning ways courtesy of Jonathan Dos Santos – whose stunning 19th-minute strike separated the two teams in Orlando.

Dos Santos’ powerful first-time shot from outside the box put the visitors ahead and it stayed that way after Nani’s 32nd-minute penalty was saved by Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Savarino’s 94th-minute strike saw Real Salt Lake past defending champions Atlanta United 2-1.
Josef Martinez thought he had earned a point for visiting Atlanta after cancelling out Sebastian Saucedo’s first-half opener with 12 minutes remaining.
However, RSL made it three consecutive wins thanks to Savarino after the Venezuela international riffled a shot into the top corner of the net.
