Sporting Kansas City continued their run of good form with a 1-0 home win over the San Jose Earthquakes in the MLS on Friday.
Sporting, who sit bottom of the Eastern Conference, headed into the match on the back of a four-match unbeaten run, which included a hugely impressive 4-1 away win at Dallas in their last fixture.
And Peter Vermes’ side continued their resurgence with the victory, which came thanks to striker Charles Sapong’s 31st minute strike.
There were to be no other goals in the clash at the Livestrong Sporting Park as the hosts nervously hung on in the final stages to move within a point off climbing off the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
The loss robbed San Jose of a chance of climbing to fourth in the Western Conference, with the Earthquakes remaining in sixth.
