The Chicago Fire have kept their hopes of making the MLS playoffs alive after a 3-2 win over the New England Revolution on Sunday.
In a dominant opening half hour, the Fire struck three times at Toyota Park in Illinois.
Revolution’s Ryan Guy pulled two goals back in second-half additional time, but it was too late for New England to snatch what would have been a remarkable draw.
Argentine midfielder Sebastian Grazzini played a part in the first two goals, converting the opener from the penalty spot before playing a lovely pass through to Dominic Oduro, who rounded Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis before netting.
Patrick Nyarko made it 3-0 on 30 minutes when he dispossessed Reis, who tried to poke a touch past him after coming to collect a pass.
New England’s playoff hopes are all but over despite Guy’s two late strikes, while the Fire are now six points adrift of the New York Red Bulls, who are fourth in the wildcard race.
