The top two in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference slipped up on Saturday, with Columbus Crew and Sporting Kansas City both losing 1-0.

Columbus, the Eastern Conference leaders, were undone by Sebastien Le Toux’s 31st-minute goal in their match away to Philadelphia Union.

The Union are third, two points behind Columbus and one back from second-placed Kansas, who lost at Real Salt Lake.

Defender Nat Borchers struck the winner for RSL in the 54th minute at Rio Tinto Stadium.

In other matches, a second-half double from Danny Koevermans helped Toronto defeat the Colorado Rapids 2-1.

Sanna Nyassi pulled one back for visitors Colorado on 68 minutes, but they proved unable to force an equaliser in the time remaining.

The Chicago Fire won a lively encounter 3-2 at home to Chivas USA.

The hosts led through Cory Gibbs’s second-minute strike and Juan Pablo Angel’s own-goal in the 26th minute.

They lost goal-scorer Gibbs to a straight red card eight minutes before half-time.

Former Aston Villa man Angel made amends for his earlier error when he got a goal back just past the hour mark.

And Nick LaBrocca struck two minutes later to level at 2-2.

The visitors might have been expected to go on and find a winner, but instead it was 10-man hosts Chicago who snatched all three points, with Dominic Oduro scoring five minutes from time.

Luke Rodgers’ first-half goal was the difference as the New York Red Bulls defeated FC Dallas 1-0 away from home.

Houston Dynamo came from a goal down to defeat San Jose 2-1.

Khari Stephenson had given the visitors the lead six minutes before half-time, but Brad Davis levelled from the penalty spot just a minute into the second half.

And Will Bruin secured the victory for Houston when he made it 2-1 with 11 minutes to go.

Seattle Sounders climbed to third in the Western Conference following a 3-0 win at home to DC United.

Michael Fucito gave the home side the lead on 35 minutes, with a brace from Alvaro Fernandez doing the rest of the damage either side of half-time.
