A brace from Landon Donovan has helped the Los Angeles Galaxy move three points clear on top of the MLS Western Conference.
The Galaxy ran out 3-0 winners over the Portland Timbers at the Home Depot Center on Saturday, after taking an early lead through striker Chad Barrett.
Donovan made it 2-0 when he scored from the penalty spot in the eighth minute, and the LA captain completed the win with his second after 67 minutes to move the Galaxy three points clear of second-placed Real Salt Lake, who have played four games fewer.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Chivas USA came from behind to defeat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 on the road.
Chris Wondolowski put the hosts ahead on the 17-minute mark, but Venezuelan striker Alejandro Moleno equalised for the visitors in first-half injury-time and Mexican substitute Mariano Trujillo scored the winner five minutes from the end.
It was a similar story in Canada, when Dallas came from a goal down to defeat the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1.
George John and Eric Avila scored in the second half to help Dallas erase Alain Rochat’s 24th-minute opener for the hosts.
The Chicago Fire played out a 1-1 draw with the Houston Dynamo, who needed an 83rd-minute goal from Andrew Hainault to cancel out a first-half strike from Chicago’s Diego Chaves.
And Toronto were held to a 1-1 draw at home by the Columbus Crew, who missed the chance to go level on points with Eastern Conference leaders the New York Red Bulls.
