MLS Wrap: Dynamo end lean spell, Red Bulls win

Having scored just 13 goals in nine matches in the MLS, the Houston Dynamo exploded to life with a 4-0 win at DC United on Wednesday.

The Dynamo went top of the Eastern Conference on goal difference from the New York Red Bulls – both sides on 20 points – courtesy of a brace to Will Bruin, while Giles Barnes and Andrew Driver also got on the scoresheet at the RFK Stadium.

Bruin has nine goals in as many matches against DC, as he helped Houston to back-to-back away wins to got top with two games in hand on the Red Bulls.

Houston have scored four goals in only three league matches since August 2010 – with each instance coming against DC.

It was the third straight game DC conceded three goals or more, and was their sixth straight loss.

Elsewhere, New York rode a Thierry Henry brace to a 2-1 win at home to the Montreal Impact.

Western Conference leaders Dallas were held to a 1-1 draw at home to the Portland Timbers.

Dallas trailed to a 70th-minute goal to Portland’s Darlington Nagbe, but equalised from the spot via Kenny Cooper seven minutes later.

Real Salt Lake sit second, four points behind Dallas, after a stirring comeback win on the road at New England.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the final quarter-hour, Devon Sandoval squared things up for Salt Lake on 78 minutes before Olmes Garcia won it for the visitors with only a minute of normal time remaining.

The Seattle Sounders continued their fine form of late, winning their second match in three with a late 1-0 triumph at Sporting Kansas City.

Djimi Traore struck the decisive goal in the 95th minute, with the victory made all the more remarkable given they played for over an hour with 10 men following Marcus Hahnemann’s dismissal on 26 minutes.

Rubbing salt into the Kansas City wounds was the fact only three minutes of added time had been allocated, while their players stopped in the lead-up due to a perceived foul.

In the late kick-off, the San Jose Earthquakes came from behind to defeat Toronto FC 2-1 – with Chris Wondolowski’s 81st-minute goal the winner.
