MLS wrap: Henry strikes for New York, Chivas sink San Jose

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry was on target in New York Red Bull’s 5-0 rout of Toronto in the MLS on Wednesday.

The victory sent New York back to the top of the Eastern Conference after an impressive performance against the struggling Toronto in front of their home fans at the Red Bull Arena.

Henry’s strike after 33 minutes began the procession of goals and Englishman Luke Rodgers followed up with his side’s second just five minutes later.

Estonian midfielder Joel Lindpere continued the run of scoring with New York’s third after 52 minutes before teenage striker Juan Agudelo was introduced from the bench.

The 18-year-old American netted a double in the last 25 minutes of the match as New York won easily.

In other matches, second-half goals to Ben Zemanski and Nick LaBrocca helped Chivas USA to a 2-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes while Graham Zusi’s 63rd-minute equaliser secured a point for Sporting Kansas City in a 1-1 draw with Colorado Rapids.

John Cunningham’s injury-time goal gave Columbus Crew a 1-0 away win at the Vancouver Whitecaps, with Cunningham’s strike making him the club’s leading goalscorer and sending him to third on the MLS all-time scoring charts.
