Sporting Kansas City climbed into third spot on the MLS Eastern Conference table with a 3-1 win over the Portland Timbers on Wednesday.

American attacker Graham Zusi scored a brace for Sporting to put them 2-0 ahead at the interval, before a third from substitute Soony Saad put the result beyond doubt on 73 minutes.

Bright Dike scored a consolation goal for the visitors at Livestrong Sporting Park, but it did not spare them their second consecutive loss which leaves the Timbers seventh in the Western Conference.

The Houston Dynamo denied New England victory at Gillette Stadium after scoring a late equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw.

Ryan Cochrane put the Revolution ahead after just five minutes, and they maintained the lead deep into the second half before Robert Buswell proved the hero for the Dynamo with a 90th-minute strike.

The point took Houston one point clear in fourth spot in the East, while New England sit in eighth, just two points from last-placed Chicago Fire.
