Predrag Mijatovic believes Luka Modric plans to be at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.
The 51-year-old played for Real Madrid himself between 1996 and 1999, scoring 29 goals in 90 appearances for Los Blancos in that time and helping them win the 1997 La Liga title, as well as the Champions League a year later. Before that, he played for Partizan Belgrade and Valencia, and following the Madrid spell he also wore the shirts of Fiorentina and Levante.
As quoted by AS, Mijatovic says he has spoken with Modric about his future and that the Croatia international is mentally preparing to be a Real player still, come next season. If he is right, it would come as a disappointment to several clubs reported to hold an interest in his services, such as David Beckham’s Inter Miami and DC United. The 34-year-old has another year left to run on his contract, and it seems he intends to see it out.
Mijatovic also spoke about Gareth Bale, and expressed a dose of surprise at the Welshman occasionally being left out of the squad by Zinedine Zidane, even when fully fit.
