According to the latest report coming from AS, Luka Modric has received an extremely lucrative offer to leave Spain and move to Saudi Arabia this summer. Apparently, the offer amounts to a total of €50 million on a two-year contract, and Modric is believed to have informed the Real hierarchy of its arrival.
The offer comes at an awkward moment, in the middle of both Real and Modric considering their options at the end of the season. There are two specifically worrying issues for the club at this point – the fact that the Saudi offer is twice what they’re paying the Croatia captain right now and they cannot match it, and that Modric apparently insists on continuing playing for his country too. They have reservations about a number of games being added to the schedule of a player that turns 38 later this year.
On the other hand, they are aware of the role Modric has played in their successes over the last couple of seasons, as well as the fact that he still plays at the highest level.
As for Modric himself, the fact that the Saudi offer isn’t just double his Real Madrid salary, but also double the duration of what he would be signing if he decides to stay in the Spanish capital.
