French giants Monaco have reached an agreement in principle for the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Cristian Rodriguez, Marca has suggested.
The Principality club has been on the lookout for a natural replacement for James Rodriguez, but having failed in their pursuit of several high-profile players, they were forced to turn towards the Uruguayan winger.
Marca understands that the two clubs have agreed on a transfer, believed to be a season-long loan, and everything now depends on the player.
Rodriguez is aware he will struggle for playing time should he remain at Vicente Calderon, while he would have a good chance of nailing down a regular starting berth at Stade Louis II.
While he can play on either wing, the Uruguay international can also be used as an attacking midfielder and it is this versatility that has been his biggest quality so far.
Rodriguez, 28, already has some Ligue 1 experience, having spent two years at Paris Saint-Germain.
