AS Monaco have reached an agreement with Liverpool over the proposed transfer of Takumi Minamino, according to Neil Jones of Goal.com.
The Japan international has made a total of 53 appearances for the Merseysiders since joining their ranks from RB Salzburg back in January 2020, recording 14 goals and three assists. He spent the second half of 2020/21 on loan at Southampton, and the Saints were one of the clubs looking to sign him permanently this summer. Leeds United were another, but Monaco have obviously won the race.
Liverpool will receive a fixed part of the transfer fee in the amount of €15 million, plus an additional sum of €3m if certain conditions are met in the future.
Much like Darwin Nunez recently, Minamino attracted the attention of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp with fine performances against his team in the Champions League. Nonetheless, it’s obvious that the competition for the attacking roles at Liverpool has proven too fierce for the 27-year-old, despite the fact that he was their top scorer in both domestic cups with four goals in each as they strode on to lift both trophies.
