Portuguese media outlet O Jogo has learned that Monaco are readying January bid for Benfica hotshot Nicolas Gaitan.
The French giants allowed two star players to leave in the summer in an attempt to comply with FIFA Financial Fair Play rules, and they are expected to stay true to the new strategy.
However, club owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is prepared to allocate funds for signing one high-quality player in January and it appears the Principality club have made Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan their primary target.
Former Sporting Lisbon boss Leonardo Jardim is a big fan of the Argentine winger and he is desperate to lure him to Stade Louis II.
The good news is that Gaitan’s contract renewal talks are not going according to plan and given that his deal is due to expire in less than two years, the Eagles might have no option but to sell in January.
The interesting thing is that the two clubs will square off in a Champions League fixture tomorrow evening, where hosts Monaco are 29/20 to see off Benfica.
