AS Monaco are closing in on the signing of Folarin Balogun from Arsenal, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic. No agreement has been reached as of yet, but the two clubs are in talks which appear to be going in a positive direction.
There have been various reports about the future of the 22-year-old striker, who recently chose to represent the USA at international level. His proposed transfer to Monaco always seemed the likeliest outcome, though Chelsea have been credited with strong interest as well. Arsenal are believed to have different prices in mind for the London rivals and the Ligue 1 side, favouring a sale outside the Premier League.
One thing appears clear – Balogun has practically no hope of regular game-time with the Gunners, with Gabriel Jesus set to return from injury soon and Eddie Nketiah also ahead of him in the pecking order under Mikel Arteta.
Balogun already has some experience of playing in France, having netted 21 times in 37 Ligue 1 matches while on loan at Stade Reims last season.
