French daily newspaper L’Equipe understands that Monaco are weighing up a move for AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes.
With the player no longer in the first team plans of boss Clarence Seedorf but earning €4 million per campaign, the Rossoneri hope to offload the 31-year-old by the time January transfer window closes.
Mexes has already rejected an opportunity to join Turkish giants Trabzonspor, but he could still be leaving San Siro this month.
Namely, Monaco are prepared to offer the France international an escape route from Milan in the January window.
Even if the Principality club hope to rejuvenate their ageing back line, boss Claudio Ranieri is prepared to take a gamble with Mexes having already worked with the player during the two years at Roma.
Monaco host Marseille tomorrow evening hoping to remain in the Ligue 1 title chase, and they are priced at 8/11 to see off their more illustrious opponents.
