Monaco win race for Derrick Appiah

French giants AS Monaco have completed the signing of Amidaus Professionals midfielder Derrick Appiah.

The Ligue 2 side announced the deal on their official website yesterday evening, stating that the player had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Monaco produced quite a coup by signing one of the hottest prospects in Africa, considering the player had been linked with a number of Europe’s top clubs.

Appiah, 18, has spent the first part of the season at Napoli, playing for club’s youth side, but could not have been offered a professional contract because of his age.

Having largely impressed playing in the Primavera, the Azzurri were keen to tie him down to a long-term contract when he turned 18 in January, but he ultimately opted for Monaco.

With Monaco tied on points with Ligue 2 leaders Nantes after 23 rounds, there is every chance Derrick Appiah will be playing Ligue 1 football next season.
