Matthijs de Ligt of Ajax still remains undecided over his future.
In an interview with Mundo Deportivo, the 19-year-old Dutch international said he still didn’t know what his heart would say about a potential new destination, but he is adamant that the decision won’t be made based on money offered. What the young centre-back craves the most, and understandably so, is game-time. De Ligt wants to go somewhere where he’d be playing week-in week-out, in what he defines as a “leading role”.
Asked about playing alongside midfielder Frenkie de Jong (already a Barcelona player) again on club level, the sought-after defender said he would love to be reunited with his friend, but the decision on his future will be made solely based on his own best interest.
The Spanish outlet were quick to interpret these words as a hint at making the move to the Camp Nou, especially the money part as they believe that is all the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus or Manchester United would have to offer. It remains to be seen whether they are right or not.
