Montpellier: Newcastle too small for Giroud

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin has denied reports that star striker Olivier Giroud will join Newcastle in January.

The Ligue 1 top scorer was recently linked with a move to St James Park, but Nicollin has categorically denied such a possibility.

“Newcastle? They are too small for him,” Nicollin told RTL.

“Arsenal? We must see if Arsene Wenger is interested because he has Van Persie.

“€10m? He won’t go for that. Given that he still has more than two years left on his contract, he’ll cost a lot more, either €50m or €60m.”

The 25-year-old has been in excellent scoring form this season, having bagged 13 goals in 18 Ligue 1 games, which is one more than his totally tally from last season.
