Montpellier boss Rene Girard has explained that Arsenal are in pole position to sign forward Olivier Giroud.
The France international is one of just two Montpellier players who were given a permission to leave in the summer and he is a target for a host of Europe’s top clubs.
Giroud is currently with the national team at the European Championship, but it seems that his future could be resolved even before les Bleus return from Poland and Ukraine.
Montpeller coach Rene Girard has revealed that Premier League giants Arsenal are leading the race for the highly rated forward.
“Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene (Wenger) agrees with the president, he will sign for them” the experienced tactician told Radio Monte Carlo.
The 25-year-old played an integral part in Montpellier’s title winning season, scoring 21 goals in 36 Ligue 1 games.
He is now set to leave Stade de la Mosson after just two seasons, and it is almost certain that he will join a big European club.
