Inter are closing in on Montpellier midfielder Younes Belhanda, according to the French club.
Fenerbahce were believed to be leading the race for the highly rated Moroccan, but their €8 million proposal proved insufficient.
Meanwhile, Inter have joined the race for the player’s signature and Montpellier president Louis Nicollin reveals that their offer has been accepted.
“In the negotiations with Fenerbahce, there are no new developments to report,” Nicollin said in an interview with Turkish newspaper AMK.
“But, I can confirm, however, that Inter Milan submitted an offer for Belhanda worth €14 million on Tuesday. I have accepted this offer.”
The controversial president went on to say that he believed the Neroazzurri would complete the deal before the January transfer window was over.
Younes Belhanda, 22, has been heavily linked with a January exit following some scintillating performances in the first part of the season.
Fenerbahce and Tottenham were both keen, but Inter’s hefty offer ultimately made all the diference.
The attacking midfielder, who has scored 22 goals in 114 league appearances for Montpellier, is currently with Morocco national team at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.
