Monza have reached an agreement with Arsenal over the proposed transfer of Pablo Mari, according to multiple sources. The 28-year-old defender will head to Italy to undergo a medical later today (Wednesday), and should it go as planned, he will join Monza on loan for the season, and the Serie A side will have the obligation to make it permanent next summer providing they survive in the Italian top flight.
Arsenal signed Mari from Flamengo originally in January 2020 for around €6 million in a deal which included a loan back to the reigning Brazilian champions (at the time), and that on the back of a Copa Libartadores triumph and narrow defeat to Liverpool in the FIFA Club World Cup final. The expectations were great as Arsenal sought for the right player to bring stability to their back line, but in all competitions since, Mari has played only 22 matches in their shirt.
He spent the second half of last season on loan with Udinese, hinting that the Serie A might just be the right environment for him to start showing his true quality again.
Arsenal are set to complete another outgoing after Lucas Torreira. Pablo Marí leaves the club and joins Italian Serie A side Monza, full agreement now reached – it’s done. 🚨🔴 #AFC
