Monza have confirmed the sacking of head coach Alessandro Nesta with the club rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table having won just one game all season.

Nesta, who replaced Raffaele Palladino back in June, won just three of his 20 games in charge in all competitions (D7 L10), averaging 0.80 points per game.

The former Milan defender watched on as his side were beaten 2-1 by Juventus on Sunday, compounding them to four straight home defeats in Serie A for the first time.

Monza have also gone nine games without a victory since their maiden triumph of the campaign against Hellas Verona back in October.

The problems for Nesta came at the top end of the pitch, with only Lecce (11) and Genoa (14) scoring fewer goals in Serie A this term than Monza (15).

According to reports in Italy, former Verona assistant Salvatore Bochetti is the favourite to replace Nesta.

“The club thanks the coach for what he has done so far and wishes him the best for the future,” Monza said in a statement.

Monza are away to 16th-placed Parma this Saturday and will be hopeful of closing the five-point gap between themselves and safety.
