Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti hit out at his team following Tuesday’s 2-0 Champions League defeat in Barcelona.
Inter need to beat Rubin Kazan at the San Siro in two weeks time to ensure they don’t miss out on the Champions League knock-out stages following that defeat.
“We stayed in Milan, it was a wasted trip for me, something like this has never happened before” fumed Moratti on Thursday.
“However, this doesn’t wipe out what has been an excellent season. It was a terrible match.”
Moratti, though, insisted that the club still has faith in coach Jose Mourinho, who previously won the Champions League with Porto.
“I went down to the changing rooms after the match, as I’ve done before, like last year in Manchester (another 2-0 defeat).
“I didn’t say anything in particular, just an exchange of ideas, it wasn’t necessary to make a scene.
“I didn’t speak to Mourinho yesterday (Wednesday) because it was his day off. We’ve still got faith in him.
“There’s a lot of faith in the person who until now has shown he knows how to respond to that faith.”
However, Moratti did not agree with Mourinho’s post-game assessment that Barca were simply better than his team.
“The other night our line-up was maybe even better than that of Barcelona.
“Everyone needs to know how to take his own responsibility to do better the next time and I’m sure that everyone, Mourinho included, will do so.”
