Like most England fans I love Paul Gascoigne. He was probably the most talented English footballer in my lifetime.
I was deeply saddened to hear that he is being taken to the High Court today by HM Revenue and Customs over unpaid tax and may well be declared bankrupt.
Gascoigne, still only forty-one years old, has recently been treated for alcoholism and has twice been sectioned by the mental health services.
At his peak, Gascoigne was reportedly worth £14million and had the whole world at his feet.
It is terribly sad to see where he is now. He should know that whatever happens, he has the support of million of fans to whom he gave an enormous amount of pleasure.
