More injury woes for Spurs

Spurs face an anxious wait for news on the fitness of veteran defender William Gallas, who suffered a hamstring injury at training on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old Frenchman pulled up sore with the injury and was immediately sent for a scan.

Gallas has started in 20 of Spurs’ 28 English Premier League matches this term and his loss would be a big blow for boss Harry Redknapp.

As well as a Champions League quarter-final, Spurs face a crucial run of league games as they aim to shore up European football for next season.

Redknapp said Gallas’ injury was ‘not good’ and added he did not know how long the defender would miss.

“William just pulled up and now we have to wait and see whether there’s a tear,” Redknapp told The Sun.

“William’s been in great form for us. If he’s out for a long time it’s a big blow for sure.”

In more bad news for Redknapp, Honduran midfielder Wilson Palacios – who recently lost his place in the side to Brazilian Sandro – will be out for three to four weeks after having clean-up surgery on a knee.

The London side are confident, however, that a thigh knock suffered by Welsh winger Gareth Bale in training is not severe enough to see him miss any football.

The 21-year-old, who has made a name for himself among the elite of European football this season, had to finish training early on Tuesday as a result of the knock but should be fit to take on West Ham on Saturday.
